The Lag Monitor for Clubs & Venues that makes sense

We have all seen this boards that tell you who is the most laggy avatar on the sim. Many of them unfortunately show you the wrong data and don’t show you the most laggy avatar on the sim but instead the most scripted one. But as a club owner, or someone that knows about venues in SL one must ask “whats the point of a lag monitor?”. I mean, most Club owners are happy with the people they get and the last thing they are going to do is complain or eject there visitors. And lets not even talk about stores. Only a crazy store owner would start ejecting its customers. So yes there are these boards, but most of the time we can say they are nothing more then fancy decoration. Because who actually goes somewhere, sees one of this boards and thinks “hmmm i am so going to

Avatar Lag Scanner

Reduce crashes and fix teleport problems by removing laggy attachments. The Avatar lag Scanner gives you a list of your 10 most laggy attachments. In addition to fixing teleport problems and reducing crashes you are making SL a more pleasurable experience for others since when you have a high stream or script cost you are also causing lag to others. Important note: Having a low lag avatar doesn’t mean you have a bad looking avatar. As you can see, i have a full mesh body, head, clothes, hair, etc and i am bellow 100.0000 Stream cost. Stream MODE To start scanning click the STEAM MODE button. This will give you a list of your most laggy attachments and the total amount of stream cost your avatar takes. First of all (after clicking Stream MODE) have a look at your total. If you have a number bellow 100.0000 everything is fine and

The Store Next door

Right in-front of my store is a new store from AdHoc, selling full perm seamless textures. The store only opened a few days ago but already has plenty of products available, especially if you are a clothes or furniture designer.

Lag Scanner PRO – HUD

The Lag Scanner PRO – HUD is the first HUD that actually gives you relevant information about lag and lets you reduce lag at your location. It does however require you to understand a few things to be able to use the HUD effectively as it is not just a gadget that simply shows you some numbers and colors. The Lag Scanner PRO – HUD uses proper checking techniques that provide you with relevant data. Just knowing how much script memory a object uses is not all that relevant as one simple mesh building can easily generate 1000x more lag then one single script. So if one would only check for script memory, and would reduce this, one would have little to no noticeable results. Hench why we scan for “relevant data” and not irrelevant data such as script memory. One super important thing you need to understand is that

Re-boxing done

Re-boxing, re-boxing and more re-boxing. For who ever had or has a store in SL and has moved ones knows what i mean with that. Yes getting a new and bigger store is great, having to change all landmarks both in-world as on MP is not such a great thing that needs to be done. To prevent from having to do this ever again all my boxed items no longer include a landmark to my store. Instead they all contain a handy little “Info HUD” that has the option to give you the landmark. Now time to get back to scripting and releasing more poducts.

To BOM or not to BOM

SL has arrived the point where latterly all good mesh body’s have BOM (Baked on Mesh). But what is BOM or Baked on Mesh? Well ill save you the long boring wiki explanation and give you the (al do slightly technically inaccurate) easiest explanation i can think off: When a Mesh body (or head) is not BOM you are attaching a “prim” and hide your body with a alpha layer. Skins, tattoo’s etc get added to your body with a applier. You could compare this with a simple texture changer. When a Mesh body is BOM (or head) you are replacing your body with a “prim”. Skins, tattoo’s etc get added to your body just like they would if you have the default (non-mesh) avatar. Your default body is in that scene not hidden with a alpha later but replaced by the mesh body. Lets say you get a shirt

On / Off

Sometimes a simple on/off script is all you need. Well simple for the end user as often simple means having to do a ton of things in the background so that you don’t have to. Therefore i added 2 new products. A simple Clothes On Clothes Off HUD and a Light On Light Off Script. They take very little effort to setup and work with just one click.

Finding out what add-boards work

What business owner in SL hasn’t tried add-boards before? I personalty don’t know any. How many business owners have given up on add-boards simply because they cant see any results? I personally know many. Add-boards can be great when they work, and yes, there are add-boards out there that are worth it. They are however hard to find. The biggest problem with add-boards is that finding out of they are working is in most cases just a guess. As in “did my traffic go up this week?” “then its probably my add-board”. Having exactly the same problem i scripted a Multi Visitor Counter that solves this problem and have been testing it for the last few weeks. You simple use different landmarks and or surls in your add-boards and the Multi Visitor Counter shows you how many visits you got on each landmark. The Multi Visitor Counter is now available

Environments

The new firestorm viewer and the SL viewer come what what is called Environments. This could be compared with windlight settings but is far more advanced. There is a lot to say about this new feature but to keep it short it wont be long until you see use of it in many places in SL as these environments settings can be set by experiences (scripts). If you want to know more about this feature check out the official wiki here: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Environmental_Enhancement_Project As there is barly anything out there (scripts) for environments and because i got a request from one of my customers im working on a few “enviroment” scripts. The first one you can find in my main store or marketplace here: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Click-Environment-Changer/21925616
